Many 998 Turbo sled owners don’t like the stock foam filter that came on their Sidewinder or ZR 9000 Thundercat. The foam is not easily serviceable and retails for $70-$80 Cdn. The foam also has lower performance and filtration properties. These are likely a couple of the reasons you don’t see foam filters in automotive applications.
Our Maxceleration Racing Air Filter Adapter Kit allows you to get rid of the stock foam filter and replace it with a K&N filter in the stock airbox. No modifications to the stock air box are required and it retains any and all vent hose connections currently running to the box. Installation time is about 5 minutes and is as simple as replacing the stock filter.
The adapter kit works with the stock airbox on all Yamaha Sidewinders and ZR9000-Thundercats with the 998 turbo engine. No tuning required, use on stock or tuned sleds.
The adapter base features a plenum engineered to feed filtered air smoothly into the cross tube to the turbo helping to maximize flow. The filter cap is domed on the interior to assist in reducing air turbulence above the inlet.

Installation: Remove the left side body panel. Remove the air box cover. Remove the 2 plastic nuts holding on the stock foam filter and the filter. Place the new filter base over the screw posts in the airbox, followed by the filter and the filter lid. The components will only fit one way. Secure with the 2 new included nuts, finger tightening with the included tool. Do not use wrenches or power tools which will over-tighten. Replace the airbox cover and side panel. You’re done.
